I recently attended the Whole Grain Summit hosted in part by the Grains for Health Foundation. The goal of the conference was to convene whole grain thought leaders and identify opportunities for advancing whole grain in all areas of health (e.g. policy and guidance, school meals, overcoming barriers for consumption, advances in processing, identifying research gaps). It was inspiring to be surrounded by folks who share General Mills passion whole grain!
While it was acknowledged during the conference that grains have been under intense scrutiny recently, a networking activity in which individuals shared a positive example about whole grain was encouraging. Two examples I heard included a success story of getting whole grain menu items in school meals (accepted by staff and students) and the ability to find more gluten free whole grain products in stores to support Celiac diet. If you have a positive whole grain story, share it now!
